My First HTML5 Website for Mobile Web

I cannot give you the details of the project because it is top secret.  For the purposes of my blog, I shall call this application "Playing Field".  Playing Field is an interactive website, with security, database backend, charting, drag and drop, etc. that must function quickly and on many different phones.  It will have a mobile front end and a regular front end that will be entirely different, so there is no real concern in making one website look good on both the desktop and the phone.

Since I am a developer, I naturally would like to use the newest, greatest technology to get this done, so I am going with HTML5.  This is a little odd seeing as I am primarily experienced in Microsoft development and IE is not completely HTML5 friendly.  However, this is the path I am taking and, so be it, it will work.

The tools I have available to me are primarily of the MSDN kind.  I use VS 2010 for my day job and so that is what I will be using for Playing Field.  This is the first day and I am primarily fact finding on how best to start this endeavor and if there are any supporting plugins or controls that will make my life easier.  So far, I have only found information on how to get VS 2010 to recognize HTML5 in intellisense.  I also tested out the IE developer tools ability to resize windows.  This will be helpful in viewing my website in many different sizes to see how it will look on many different phones.  I should be able to do the same thing via Safari, Firefox, and Opera.

Right now, I am trying to figure out what VS 2010 Web Site template is best to start with.  Empty?  MVC?  .NET Web Application?  When I figure it out, I will let you know!  Unfortunately, as with any new technology, one is often left with trial and error at the beginning until other people figure it out and share their knowledge on the internet.
